Capt. Ed Irwin
I guess you can say I have spent most of my life trying to get lost in the outdoors. Born in Newfoundland, Canada I spent as much time as I could outside, fishing the streams for trout and getting lost in woods. As a small boy I would drive my mother crazy by wandering off only to come home with pockets full of the fish I caught, or birds and small animals I captured that I wanted to keep as pets.

I have enjoyed back country camping, hiking, canoeing my entire life. The Boundary Waters lakes and portages one of are my favorite places to get lost in. To ride my motorcycle, lightly packed for finding remote fly-fishing streams, not really having a destination in mind, is my perfect get away.

I grew up on the small lakes of Northern Illinois, driving to school in my small motorboat. The first time I was on a sailboat I instantly fell in love with the simple act of the wind taking my boat anywhere.

After sailing Lake Michigan for many years, Erin and I created a plan to take off on our own boat and sail to as many places of the world that we could. We found an abandoned Cape Dory 36 and rebuilt it and outfitted it for long distance travel. Years of hard work paid off in a beautifully restored and perfectly outfitted classic sailboat that allowed us to live our sailing dreams.

We have sailed and lived aboard our boat for the past 4 years. We have sailed the Great Lakes, the Chesapeake, off shore from Norfolk around Bermuda to the Caribbean. We then sailed back north to Maine, sailing “down east” for the summer and headed back down the eastern seaboard to head off shore again to the Caribbean.

We have spent the past 2 seasons in the Virgin Islands, US and BVI exploring and finding amazing coves, anchorages, becoming PADI scuba certified, and learning why everyone says that once you make it to the Caribbean- you don’t want to leave. I am looking forward to showing guests why the Caribbean is a sailing paradise.

Chef Erin Irwin
My childhood playground was Tower Marina in Saugatuck, MI. My family bought a River Queen houseboat when I was 10 and we spend every weekend and all of the summers until I was 18 playing on Lake Michigan’s waters. I loved everything about being on the water and was always the first and last one to jump into the water, no matter what temperature!

I am always up for an adventure and tend to do life in a bigger than life way. I am nearly 100% Irish and definitely have the gift of gab and will tell stories all day. I am a care taker, the oldest daughter of a big family, mother of 5 kids, a nurse/midwife for 25 years, and as professor for a good part of my life I am a natural teacher.

When cooking for my family I wanted them to have a healthy diet. Most of our meals were whole foods from our garden, cooked from scratch. My cooking style has an emphasis on a healthy balance of the Mediterranean foods, Asian cuisines, and comfort foods that are adapted to healthy, but rich versions. I have spent a good portion of my life in Chicago, and have become an obsessive foodie, constantly searching for the perfect meal at the perfect restaurant which is an endless quest that has taught me so much about the experience of eating well.

As the oldest daughter of a big family , and the mother of a large family, I was always the center of planning family gatherings and parties. I love finding unique themes and creating relaxed, special-moments and memories together. Ed and I have found the outdoors, especially sailing, to always be the perfect setting for finding that moment to connect to each other, but to something bigger. It has always been the best stage for us to find joy, peace, adventure and excitement and we want to share that.

We especially look forward to having families find that elusive real time together. There just isn’t anything like being on a sailboat to allow for everything else to fade away and be connected to the people you love. We can’t wait to help others find that perfect spot- that perfect moment that will be a memory that holds forever.

One word: heavenly
Five star service
Words cannot express how we feel about you
wed take shots of that wing sauce
I'll raise you five pool noodle slaps
You one-up yourselves every day
Each time we drink lime in a coconut, we'll think of you!
What started as a 60th birthday celebration turned into a once in a lifetime vacation.  We swam with fish, turtles, and rays.  Don't kick us off we want to stay!  Chef Kestrel's meals were beyond gourmet while Captain Heather led the adventures each day.  The magical stars we saw each night, and even the bioluminescence to our delight.  Until next time we hope to see ya, we'll never forget our time on Katrina.

Heather and Kestrel were amazing. I would give them my highest recommendation for anyone looking to book a catamaran charter in the USVI. It was fun sailing to different places for a few hours, then mooring to take advantage of the local reefs. Snorkeled every day. Swam every day. Excellent facilities Captain Heather was perfect. Knew everything about the area, placed us in great moorings to snorkel, swim and sleep for the nights. Incredibly friendly, personable and helpful. Kestrel prepared outstanding dishes all day long. Tasty, fresh, tropical, filling. Delicious. Amazing.

This was our first family vacation in over a year. It was exactly what we needed, tons of free time and relaxation. Captain Heather and Chef Kestrel attended to our every need and made our trip much more memorable. Captain Heather took us to places where we were able to snorkel with sea turtles, and a variety of unique sea life. Chef Kestrel did an amazing job in preparing daily cuisine. We loved dining by the open waters every morning and night. Spent time star gazing and enjoying beautiful sunsets over the top deck. Looking forward to our next family adventure in the Virgin Islands.
July 2021
This was our very first charter and it exceeded our expectations. Captain Heather and Chef Kestrel became like family. They took us to fantastic snorkel locations and taught us so much about ocean life. The food was excellent - even the kids tried everything! We loved our experience and hope to do it again some day. Captain Heather and Chef Kestrel made us feel incredibly comfortable - above and beyond. We did not want to leave! They had amazing patience and were super fun with our three kids aged 13, 12, and 10.

The Katrina is an amazing boat. Lots of room to gather and also to find quiet places for some alone time. Although Captain Heather and her crew are what made the trip an experience worth repeating year after year. From the beginning, she made our group feel safe secure, and at ease. The food was amazing. As foodies, we are always concerned about the level of the culinary experience. Let me tell you there is no need to worry onboard Katrina. After the first meal of fresh tuna marinated and grilled to perfection served with rice glazed carrots and the best Brussel sprouts, I have ever had. Every need was catered to and I feel they went above any beyond to make it a special occasion for our group. Can't wait to come back next year!!!

What an amazing week! It was exactly what we needed as a family with four busy kids and one leaving for college. Lots of great down time to relax and hang out together with spectacular views and being spoiled by Heather and Kestrel. The food was fabulous and plenty. Kestrel's specialty drinks were the perfect afternoon refreshment. Heather knew the best snorkeling spots and must see hideaways. It was a great family adventure! Thanks to the crew for all their hard work and special touches.
May 2021
Our trip on Katrina was an amazing experience. Captain Heather had wonderful recommendations of beautiful beaches, and customized our charter based on the what we wanted to do. We swam with sea turtles, saw beautiful beaches, stunning sunsets, and had an amazing afternoon with a band on our boat. The drinks and food from chef Jessica were unreal. We cancelled plans to go ashore for a dinner because any meal we could get would not compare to the food on the boat. If you are looking to charter a catamaran in the USVI/BVI, I cannot recommend Captain Heather, Chef Jessica, and the Katrina boat enough. It is an experience you will not forget.
May 2021
6 days on Katrina was a bucket trip of a life time!! Captain Heather and Chef/First Mate Jessica quickly became our friends. We can’t stop talking about our trip to our friends and family. They file your lead...as much or as little activity as you like. From snorkeling with turtles at Maho to breath taking sunsets, we were totally captivated with the beauty of St. John. With Captain Heather’s knowledge of the area we were able to experience pieces of St. John unreachable by land. We can’t say enough about the food. In fact, we are showing more pictures of our meals than anything. We are totally blown away with the attention to detail and preparation to provision this trip prior to heading out. We ended our trip with a private concert by After Irma on the back of our boat, perfect ending to a trip of a lifetime. If you are considering a trip like this, Katrina is your destination!!

Our family had a wonderful time with Heather and Jessica! What a week! We loved Jessica's cooking, and thoroughly trusted our excellent Captain Heather. We enjoyed learning so much about the Islands, navigation, and sailing in the Caribbean. Our snorkeling experience was epic with Jessica taking amazing underwater photographs of all the sea creatures we found, with the highlight being an amazing octopus. Our kids loved water sports with Heather and I loved the daily yoga with Jessica! This all female crew was truly amazing and we'd recommend them to anyone who loves snorkeling, yoga, the ocean, great food and good people!

Warmly and with gratitude,
The Cohens
Allison, Josh, Julia, Stephen, and Camille.

What a fantastic week aboard Katrina for our first trip to the USVI!! With Heather as our Captain and Derek as our chef, we were pampered and well taken care of! Many thanks for a week we will always cherish and remember.

"This was our very first charter on a catamaran. It was well worth the wait! The crew was amazing! So hospitable and accommodating. Tim cooked the best meals. We especially loved the filet/mashed potatoes, pad thai and the yummy poke bowl.
This was the perfect setting to wind down and be with family. We were totally spoiled. Can't say enough about Heather and Tim! We will be back!!
